چکیده

Multiuser detection allows for the eecient use of bandwidth in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) channels through mitigation of near-far eeects and multiple-access noise limitations. The decorrelating detector, developed by Lupas, is a linear multiuser detector that is asymptotically optimal in terms of near far resistance when certain communication parameters are completely known to the detector. In this paper, a simple adaptive decorrelating detector is developed by placing constraints on the set of spreading codes to be used by the active users. This adaptive detector has two modules: it rst decorrelates the existing users, and then determines the spreading code of a new user entering the network with or without the use of a training sequence. Maximum Likelihood detection is proposed for determining the new user's spreading code. The performance of this algorithm is studied by investigating the probability of making an error in determining the new user's spreading code as a function of the number of samples used to make the determination, the number of users transmitting, and the signal to noise ratio of the new user with respect to the ambient Gaussian noise.

Spatial-Temporal CDMA Receiver Structures for Rayleigh Fading Channels

| We investigate multiuser signal detection with a base-station antenna array for synchronous CDMA Rayleigh fading uplink channels. We have developed a discrete-time model that enables the formulation of a spatial-temporal decorrelating detector using the maximum-likelihood criterion. The detector is shown to be near-far resistant. We further propose to implement the spatial-temporal decorrelat...

Capacity of Linear Decorrelating Detector for QS-CDMA

We study the performance and capacity of a quasi-synchronous code division multiple access (QS-CDMA) cellular system employing the decorrelating detector. It is assumed that each of N users has a GPS generated local clock, and attempts to transmit in synchrony with the other users in its cell. The detector makes use of the small timing uncertainties to build the interference signal space and pe...

Optimally near-far resistant multiuser detection in differentially coherent synchronous channels

The noncoherent demodulation of differentially phase-shift keyed signals transmitted simultaneously via a synchronous CDMA channel is studied under the assumption of white Gaussian background noise. A class of noncoherent linear detectors is defined with the objective of obtaining the optimal one. The performance criterion considered is near-far resistance, which denotes worst-case multiuser as...

Performance analysis of the decorrelating multiuser detector for nonlinear amplified DS-CDMA signals

This paper analyses the effects of the nonlinear distortions introduced by high-power amplifiers (HPAs) on the performance of the linear decorrelating multiuser detector (MUD) in synchronous direct-sequence code-division multipleaccess (DS-CDMA) systems. By assuming and motivating the Gaussian distribution of the nonlinear distortion noise, the system bit-error rate (BER) has been derived theor...
